I tied a gross of west coast patterns for Jim Rusher about 30 years ago and never sold a fly after that. Back breaking work, I'd rather dig ditches for money!

When I was learning, I met Galen Mercer, now an artist who has been featured in Grey's and other places. He was tying commercially for Orvis. He basically tied one nymph pattern, about 40,000 an order. He told me not to quit my day job!

Tying for others is not a way to make a living, it is a way to force yourself to practice.

Only way to make money, and not a lot, is you sell your own flies retail.

Do it because you enjoy doing it, not for a paycheck.

jstockard.com has a full asortment for good prices. If you want truly bulk materials, you need to find the material breeders, processors, manufacturers or distributors and order through them.
